DRACHENSEELE
Sterling Silver Soul Pendant, Garnet
Ylakorr, a great red dragon of the mountains, was dying. The mortals that had first invaded his horde months ago had convinced him of the great evil that was spreading like a blight, thanks to his kin and their minions. Though he himself had played his part in this evil, the elf, the dwarf, and the human argued that his intervention on their behalf and the behalf of the side of good would wipe his slate clean. Now he lay fallen, mortally wounded by the enemies around them who no longer drew breath.
The elf, a wizard of great renown, whispered soothing words through their tears in an attempt to ease his passing. As Ylakorr's light was fading, though, he growled an incantation in an ancient tongue long since forgotten, one spoken by his ancestors and that resided only deep in a dragon's soul. The once vibrant red light that shifted beneath his scales brightened suddenly and began flowing towards his heart, gathering in a small point that became more and brilliant.
With his final breath, Ylakorr uttered a word that the trio would later learn meant "I will protect" and then was still. The light that had been blinding a moment ago seemed to coalesce into stone, dim, and fall to the ground all at once. With great sadness at the passing of their comrade, who had turned against his own nature to protect the realm from devastation, the dwarf knelt and picked up the stone, which now thrummed with energy and glowed with a dim red light.
The trio eventually defeated the great evil pervading the world. As a remembrance, they had Ylakorr's stone set into silver and carried out with them through the remainder of their journey. And in times when all odds seemed against them and certain death appeared to be at hand, the stone would glow bright, and the trio would feel Ylakorr's protective presence once more.
